AP English and Language Composition
AP English Language and Composition closely follows the requirements described in CollegeBoard, including the fundamentals of literary analysis and introductory college composition. Each week 11th grade students discuss and engage in a variety of writing activities focusing on argumentation, interpretation, analysis, rhetorical strategies, exposition, structure, and style. They read and study a variety of novels, plays, poems, and short stories from the 16th century to the present. In addition to district approved novels, students read shorter works and drama from the Engage New York Curriculum. In AP English Language and Composition, students will have topics and discussions which will help improve their speaking and listening skills. They will also write thesis statements, paragraphs, and full-length essays that incorporate textual evidence and commentary to enhance their writing prior to the annual AP Eng Lang. & Comp. exam during the spring semester of the school year.
